Today I thought I would take a small break from my relationship series and talk about the woes of grocery shopping. Rather you love it or hate it, you have to do it or eat out all the time. I hope you do it and I hope this eases some of the pain it can cause.
I never thought much about this as when I go shopping I go a few different places so that I can make my lifestyle of eating fit within my budget, but apparently people that are trying to change their eating habits for the good are being bullied into thinking they are failing based off where they buy their food. Well let me be the first to tell you, I shop at Wal-Mart, Aldi, Publix, Food City, United Grocery Outlet, and when I can two local butcher shops. I never shop at the same places week to week and I generally buy what is on sale and within my budget. Keto has allowed me over time to simplify my list so I know there are certain things I may have to occassionally go to a speciality store for, example coconut aminos.
Just because I don’t buy all my food at a Whole Foods or other organic store doesn’t mean I am going to fail, and neither should you. You can completely eat healthy and within your diet allowance with planning and willingness to bend. So is all grass fed beef better for you? I’m sure on some microscopic level it could be, but quite frankly I don’t care. If I can afford it I get it, if I can’t I don’t. Either way I’ve still seen great success in weight loss as long as I stick to what I am supposed to be consuming based on my macros for Keto.
To me it’s more important to read the labels and spend 90% of you shopping trip on the outside perimeter of the store. If you spending hours in the aisles with boxes and cans, you probably are not getting the best nutrition and are chosing things with too many ingredients in them. Now if you can only afford canned grean beans vs. fresh green beans then used the canned ones, just make sure there is nothing added to them. You can totally eat and be budget friendly. Don’t get me wrong there are things we all prefer a specific brand of, but that is a personal choice. I may love Duke’s mayo, but someone else may prefer to make their own. Both are fine and neither are going to impact you in any way.
If people tell you that you can’t be doing Keto or other diet because of where you are shopping then you should probably not be listening to them. Quit worrying what everyone else thinks about what you are doing and do what makes you happy and your wallet happy. I don’t care where you shop, what brand you buy, all I care is that you realize you can eat healthy within a budget and be healthy.
