Happy Wednesday! Fellow readers we have made it through half this crazy week, and I for one am doing great at finding positivity throughout it. For those of you who are struggling with that seek it out with purpose and you will be glad you did. Today I want to talk about something we are all guilty of, blurring the lines of what foods are and what they are intended for.
We all have been drilled for years that we need fruits and veggies, grains, and proteins, and fat is bad. Told that we can’t eat this and we have to eat that. Then we stumble onto keto or carnivore and we got through it all again. You can’t eat that that it’s not keto, if you eat that your not carnivore. So many people being told no and how to do it when we are all individuals and we need to do the following: 1. DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU 2. STOP COMPARING YOUR CHOICES TO OTHERS 3. LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE FOR YOU NO ONE ELSE.
Three things that we all need to tell ourselves every single day, and for some of us we need to say it way more than once a day. There is so much misinformation on the internet, and so many people who think they are experts. I can sit here with you every single day and tell you of my successes and be a guiding light, but I am no expert and it is not my job to tell you you are eating the wrong things. It is my job to support you and guide you to better choices, and choices that will work for you and how they fit in your best life.
Here is a perfect example. Fruit is not keto friendly. Total and complete lie. There are fruits that are higher carb and fruits that are lower carb. Depending on your carb restriction and how you react to fruit you can enjoy it. Many people on Keto find that berries work well. Here is another shocker an avocado is a fruit! You tell someone on keto they can’t have an avocado and you might want to run. Same things go for vegetables. Another one that is commonly misidentified is peanuts. Peanuts are not nuts at all they are actually in the legume family and for a lot of people they are inflammatory, but that doesn’t mean they are for everyone.
Take some time to really research your food. Don’t just determine what food group it belongs time. Really dig in and understand what if any nutrients you are getting from the food. Take the time to write down how you feel after you consume certain foods. Try an elimination diet if you suspect something in your diet is bothering you. If you don’t eat that food for a couple weeks and you feel better, and then you re-introduce it and you feel bad again chance are you just need to avoid it. Don’t look at food as bad or good, look at it as a source of nutrients and nothing more.
So the next time someone tells you not to eat that or your can’t eat that, tell them to piss off! Then remind yourself you are living your best you, and you want to take the time and look up why that person thinks you don’t need it. Most importantly until next time…Keep Ketoing On!
Welcome to another addition of Monday Madness! I hope everyone had a great weekend and had an opportunity to celebrate the wonderful women in their lives. I personally had a really nice mother’s day and enjoyed every minute of it. Looking forward to my crazy week ahead. I am beginning to think I run on chaos and caffeine!
Last week was a true testament to my inner strength. I had stress hitting me from all angles and did not handle it well at all. This just help plant the seed in my head that I really need to work harder on stress management. I need to make time everyday to start de-stressing. So I plan on coming up with a plan and a method and I am going to have stick to it. I have tried meditation in the past, but have not been very successful. My mind kicks into overdrive and usually end up more stressed than when I started. I also want to look at other forms of stress management such as grounding. Check in later for an update.
In addition to last week’s stress I got a message on Sunday while attending a church service that I want to share with everyone because they need to listen to it. “Ladies when you look into the mirror and you see a pinto, you are wrong you are a Lamborghini.” A friend of our family said this and I tell you what nothing has ever rang more true. We all too often don’t see what our true beauty is and we all need to work on changing that! We are all beautiful in our own ways and we all need to start seeing it and accepting it!
My diet continued to be 95% carnivore last week and the majority of the week I did one meal a day. I avoided dairy all week and felt great. I did allow myself some heavy whipping cream over the weekend. I also had a little splurge and made some Texas Twinkies for mother’s day. These are basically jalapeno poppers with brisket added in. All I can say is that they were worth every bite, but unfortunately the cream cheese revolted against my body. I even purchased a new brand with less ingredients. So while it is disappointing I more than likely will keep cream cheese out of my diet. I also discovered that our local Earth Fare grocery store had ground kobe beef this week, and I think I found the holy grail of burgers. This stuff was phenomenal! Generally I don’t partake much in ground beef because I don’t like the flavor. This stuff; however, tasted absolutely amazing. So flavorful and so juicy and all I seasoned it with was some Redmond’s Real Salt. Shockingly it wasn’t that pricey either.
I did not get the opportunity to weigh or measure this week, due to all the activities we had planned. So I am going to do my best to weigh and measure Sunday this week and I will give everyone and update on how it’s going. I am not too worried about what the scale says though because I still feel great and I am noticing my clothes getting bigger and bigger. I think for now I have entered a period of letting my body heal itself, and once that happens I feel more weight will just naturally come off.
I have started to pick up my activity level quite a bit also. I managed to get over 10,000 steps in at least three days last week. I hope to be able to grow that number to four days a week and then 5 days a week. It amazes me the amount of energy that I get after the walk, and I am also blessed to have a great walking trail right behind my house. I do need to get back on track with lifting to tone up my arms, but I’m not going to rush it.
I am looking forward to another great week and hope that all of you have a great week as well. Check back in this week as I will have some new material coming out. Until next time ….Keep Ketoing On!
Welcome to another addition of Monday Madness! I hope everyone had a great weekend and your Monday isn’t too crazy. In typical fashion mine is crazy! I’m fairly certain if I ever had a Monday that wasn’t crazy I would think something was wrong. I did have a fairly nice weekend though so that was a plus to kick off this crazy day.
Exciting news for me from the weekend. I took a bold step and got a new summer hair cut and color. I feel like a new women ready to take on the world. I decided to go super short for the summer so things will be easy to manage and that southern Chattanooga heat won’t get to me as much. I also decided to finally buy some flowers for our house. I do not have a green thumb but I do like flowers. So we planted three rose bushes in front of our house. I can’t wait for them to start growing and blooming so I can share some photos with you. We also spent some time at our local market this weekend. I always enjoy seeing all the local vendors and it’s a great way to get in some steps for the day.
Not much has changed in my Keto world. I did sort of fall of the wagon the last couple days, but not like most people do when they say that. I did not consume anything that was carb loaded or a “cheat meal”, but I way over consumed my normal amount of protein and I definitely ate more than what my hunger was. So why did I do that? Stress eating has always been a struggle of mine, as well as binge eating. I let both of those things take a hold of me this week, and I am very disappointed that I let it happen. I let negativity and stress of my life completely take over my body and my routine. So how do I fix it? I simply have to re-focus and re-set. So today I am doing an extended fast to get myself back on track and show myself that food does not control me, I control me! I plan to go at least 24 but ultimately would like to make it to 40. I just want to really focus in on my body and listen to it so we shall see how far I make it. May be less or may be more. Check back later this week on my blog for topics about binge and stress eating.
I did have something quite phenomenal happen this week which reassured me that eating a more carnivore heavy lifestyle is the way for me to be eating. For the first time in 25 years I did not get a hormonal migraine during my monthly cycle. My last two cycles have also been shorter in duration and I have had to take no medication to assist with cramping. This is huge for me as I suffer from endometriosis and functioning during my cycles has always been a challenge. Other than a few chocolate cravings though they have been improved ten fold. As for the craving part most of the time I find it easier just to give in and allow myself some dark chocolate. This also excites me to have an opportunity to see what else eating meat heals in my body.
I hope that everyone has an amazing week. Take some time for yourself and reflect on all the positive vibes you can. Until next time…Keep Ketoing On!
Hello fellow readers and welcome to another publication of Monday Madness. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I had a very productive weekend and yes my Monday has already been crazy! Nothing like an 8AM work meeting to get your butt in gear for the week! Let’s recap last week and look ahead at what may be to come.
I have taken a few days off from my arm weights and decided that I will more than likely continue on with another 21 day challenge starting on May 1. I did give it a go a few days ago with heavier weights and I was quite shocked in the difference. I did do some lifting this weekend, in the form of transporting 152 bricks by hand three times to build a fire pit. So my arms were definitely feeling the burn. I am also starting to see a little muscle definition in my arms, but I have a long road ahead of me for them to be where they need to be. I’m not in a hurry to get there and I am working so that the muscles get adequate rest and healing between workouts. So far this method has kept me pain free. We ended up with a pretty awesome fire pit as well from the weekend. We designed it so that one end is the fire pit and then there is a grated run for charcoal outdoor cooking. I can’t wait until my custom grate comes and we can give it a good test run. I also learned I have no desire to ever become a mason!
I had another discouraging week in the weight department. I somehow managed to gain three pounds. So I am hoping this was muscle gains from increased workouts and not fat gains. It discourages me, but at the same time it makes me realize I just need to get my head deeper in the game. I have struggled since switching to keto carnivore and I need to find my niche within that area. I think the answer for me may be going back to tracking my macros for a few weeks and seeing what I am lacking to get the progress that I want. I am currently working on a blog about tracking and macros, I will be releasing it this week.
I got brave this week and tried a new snack. I made bacon chips and piped a small amount of cream cheese onto each one and then added some Redmond’s seasoning salt. They were absolutely amazing! It was the first cream cheese I had tried since December 2018. Guess what I learned? No more cream cheese for this girl! Within two hours of eating it I was ready to hug a toilet bowl and it took a good 24 hours to even begin to feel better, and I was bloated up like a dead whale on a beach. It was not a pleasant experience and disappointing to know that cream cheese is just out for me now. So for now my diet is pretty much consistently meat, eggs and salt. That is what seems to make me feel the best. I also can get away with a small amount of heavy whipping cream.
Our local market had it’s opening weekend here in Chattanooga so me and my husband had a date day and checked it all out. I was pleasantly surprised to see the addition of a couple grass fed meat farmers, fresh eggs, and a few other items at the market. I also always enjoy checking out the local arts and crafts. I highly recommend you take the time to look up local markets in your area and check them out as often as you ca. Not only is the food better for you, you get to meet some really nice local farmers as well. My prized score this week wasn’t food though it was a hand made ceramic mug from 3 Generations Art Studios out of Sweet Water, TN. Crazy coffee lady needed a new coffee mug and she loves it!
Just a couple quick reminders before I wrap up today’s madness. I am now offering coaching options on my page, if you have questions feel free to contact me before purchasing. I am always open to questions and suggested topics free of charge! I will never turn anyone away who wants to better themselves in some way. Always and mean always love yourself and surround yourself with positivity, and until next time…..Keep Ketoing On!
Good Monday afternoon fellow readers! I hope everyone had a chance to get a little de-stressing in over the weekend. My Monday is already off to a crazy start and I am in hopes that it isn’t a clue as to how the rest of my week is going to go. I woke up feeling very ran down and tired this morning which is not a good way for me to start any day let alone a Monday. Pollen counts are horrible in Chattanooga and everything is yellow. So I continue to struggle with my allergies, but doing my best to keep trucking along.
So last week I started my day fasting experiment. It was actually more challenging than I thought it would be, but I was successful 6 out of the 7 days. On Thursday I found myself to be more hungry than I had been all week, and I am 90% sure it was do to my hormones and monthly cycle. So rather than fight the feeling of hunger I gave my body what it needed and enjoyed a second meal for the day. My body thanked me and I felt amazing afterwards. It is so important to realize what your body needs and when it needs it. I fast because I enjoy the benefits but I also listen to my body and if I can’t I simply don’t. With the exception of that one day I managed to basically eat OMAD (one meal a day) and stayed within my macros.
I haven’t noticed a specific change in my sleep patterns with this yet, but I do notice I have a little more energy in the later evening hours. I do find that I get a little tired about an hour after I eat my one meal, but I am sure it is because my body is working hard to digest that one meal. As far as body changes, I did drop 2.4 pounds this week and also lost a total of 2″ off my body. So I found that to be quite a beneficial side effect. I also added in some weights for my arms and I’m surprised that for the first time ever I have no pain following the program I am following and I am attributing that to the amount of protein that I am consuming and that body has what it needs to repair itself on the rest days. No significant results as of yet with the weights but hey Rome wasn’t built in a day and my bat wings aren’t going away in a day either.
I took on the challenge this weekend of attempting to make my own pecan nut butter. Results….OMG this stuff is amazing! I can’t wait to try it. I don’t consume nut butter everyday, but on occasion I allow myself a tablespoon as a treat, and it keeps my carbs in check as well as I am still staying under 10 total carbs a day. I haven’t felt the need to add in any veggies other than some pickles. So I may have a few pickle chips each day, but 95% of my diet is still carnivore based. That is what my body wants so that is what I am giving it. I absolutely love that food doesn’t control my life anymore and that I don’t spend so much time worrying about what to fix.
This week will be plain and simple. I am going to keep going with my OMAD and daily fasting and see how it goes. I will also continue my arm weights this week I will increase my reps by two more per set. I am also looking to start incorporating some yoga into my life a couple days a week. If anyone ever has any questions, wants to chat, needs advice/coaching or anything else please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can also find me on Instagram at @charming.confessions. Until next time Keep Ketoing On!
Hello fellow readers! Hope all of you are having an amazing week and giving it your all. I am still fighting allergies and under the weather but I’m not letting it hold me back. I am still full steam ahead.
I wanted to write for a few and let you all know of a new experiment I will be taking on starting Monday, April 1, 2019. For those who have read my previous blogs you already know I have been experimenting with a version of Keto that is Carnivore based. That has been going really well but results for me have been slower than when I was simply following Keto. I think it has to do a lot with the quantity of protein I have been consuming and still learning the signals from my body when I am really full and when I am hungry just because I’m bored. So I have decided to go back to some basics with a little twist.
Starting Monday, April 1, 2019 I will be changing up my intermittent fasting game to make myself primarily a day time eater. There have been some recent studies that show that individuals who stopped eating by 2PM began to see decrease in body mass as well as an increase in sleep. After reading some of the studies I have become very intrigued on what this could do for me because most days my last meal is between 7-8PM due to work schedules. We as human beings use our sleep cycles to repair our bodies, and if we eat a larger meal late in the day our body has to spend a considerable amount of time digesting as opposed to repairing. With this theory in my head space I want to see what changes I will see by simply changing my eating / fasting cycle.
My plan is to eat in a window of around 4 hours a day and eat no later than 2PM. The rest of my time will be spent fasting, hydrating and resting. I also have decided to go back to tracking my macros. For me I need that comfort of knowing where my ratios are and how they are benefitting me. I think this will help me keep on track and I feel my macros are more than enough to keep me satiated. I plan on weighing and measuring prior to starting and then I will weigh and measure again at the end of April. I also plan on keeping a log of how I feel and how my sleep changed in any way also. As far as adding back any carbs or veg….I’m not sure at this time I think I will just see what my body wants. I do not if I decide to add any in it will be no more than 10 total carbs per day.
I look forward to starting this experiment and sharing my results with everyone. Also feel free to look me up on Instagram @charming.confessions as I will more than likely do some video diaries of my results as well. So until next time Keep Ketoing On!
Good Monday Morning everyone, hope everyone is ready for their dose of weekly madness! I would love to say I am ready to tackle my week, but I am under the weather and truly wish I could just stay in bed. Unfortunately I have bills to pay and kids to parent so no extra rest for me. Allergies in Chattanooga are brutal so hopefully in the next couple weeks all will clear up and I will be back to my energetic self!
Last week I continued in my carnivore journey and was still feeling great. I also started working on going down to OMAD (one meal a day) and pretty much all week I was successful with that. I had tons of energy and never once felt hungry. The one day that I did feel hungry, guess what, I ate. It is amazing how that works, just listen to your body! So after a month my I lost 2.9 pounds and 5.5″ while on carnivore. That brings my total loss to a little over 72 pounds and over 125″ off my body! Keto/Carnivore is so worth it for me!
In other news in my life I have decided to take the plunge and I applied for my project manager professional certification. So hopefully in the next couple weeks I will find out if I have been approved. Then I will be hitting the books to study for the exam. It is something I have always wanted to do but have procrastinated for too long on. I decided time to go for it and I’m as ready now as I ever will be!
I’ve been continuing research on Keto/Carnivore last week to better wrap my head around things that others are doing and what I agree with and don’t agree with. I want to be able to share with everyone my feelings, my opinions, and I also want a little bit of research behind what I am talking about. The science of it all is fascinating to me. I’ve also started to branch out to others as well, because my way is not the only way and I want to be able to help anyone no matter what way their way is.
I also have started to add back in some heavy cream to my diet to see how it affects me. Not having it in my coffee but have been adding a little bit into some bone broth. I really enjoy the added creaminess it added to my broth. The broth helps sooth my throat and also is giving me a boost of protein to help my body to heal. So far no reaction to the cream and I think as long as I keep it in moderation it will be fine. I have also started adding back in some different spices, and have noticed that most are okay so far. Spicier seasonings seem to be a no-no still though as they tore up my stomach. So I will continue to keep it simple for the most part. Salt and pepper properly applied can make a huge difference.
I have also now eliminated Keto coffee Monday-Friday. I am only doing black coffee with redmonds real salt, and lugols iodine through the week. I do allow myself one keto coffee on the weekends. I actually don’t mind the coffee black and I think the reduction in fat will be better for my loss as I still have plenty of fat to go. I’ve also noticed that I don’t want coffee as much as I did a few weeks ago so my afternoon coffee doesn’t happen everyday anymore.
So as you can see 10 months into this journey and I am still learning so much about myself and my body. You can’t give up you have to constantly tweak things and adapt to what your body needs. I haven’t set a new goal for this week and I may not, as just keeping on track is a goal in itself. Sometimes you don’t need to change it you just need to be in the moment and do it. Looking forward to sharing some more topics with everyone this week, until next time Keep Ketoing On!
