Good Morning fellow readers and welcome to another publication of Monday Madness. For once I don’t have too much going on Monday morning, but this could be the classic situation of the calm before the storm. I hope everyone had an amazing week last week and that this week is even more amazing! So let’s get to it.
I continued my journey into the world of yoga last week. We ended up taking two more classes. We did an Ashtanga class and then a Yin class. Both are very different from each other and I enjoyed both. Ashtanga was way more challenging and much more active as to where Yin was very relaxing and I got the opportunity to open up my body and expand my flexibility. The Yin class also helped relieve some of the soreness I was experiencing from the Ashtanga class. I also learned that during the Yin class I need to start focusing on ways to get my mind to slow down. It was racing all over the place and I struggled to focus and ground myself. I without a doubt see us continuing on our path with yoga.
I allowed stress to dominate my life last week. I let every little thing get into my head and consume me. I am 100% sure my cortisol was completely out of whack. I let it consume me so much that I couldn’t even sleep. I was averaging 3-4 hours most nights as opposed to my accustomed 7-8. It really had a huge negative impact on everything in and around my life. The sad part of this was most of what had me stressed was completely out of my control. I chose to let it control me instead of me controlling it. I continue on my path of discovering things that will help me focus on more positive things, ground myself and relieve my stress. So much negativity with no positive counter was so detrimental to my health last week and I am still feeling the effects this week.
I also allowed myself more keto type treats last week than I ever would I have. I searched for solace in food. This is typical for me and and a pattern of my binge eating history. Like someone if I eat something that is not perfect I am hurting those who are hurting me, but I know in my heart that I am actually only hurting myself and hindering my progress. Self awareness is the first step in my opinion to figure out how to solve or change any issues. I’m getting a little help with that this week as I decided to participate in a 72 hour fast sponsored by Redmond’s Real Salt. I started last night and will fast until at least Wednesday night but may end up pushing into Thursday morning. During my fast I intend to reflect on my food triggers and what I need to do to keep them out of my life. I also plan to refocus what I am fueling my body with and decide what is best for me to achieve my goals and feel optimal.
Last week I also ordered a copy of Keto for Women by Leanne Vogel. So I plan on diving in this week and seeing what she has to say. I plan on blogging a review once I have covered the material thoroughly so stay tuned for that.
All and all that is about all I have been up to. I look forward to sharing some exciting topics this week with everyone, and this Sunday will also be my monthly weigh and measure so I will be sharing those results next week. Until next time…What’s Your Confession?
Happy Wednesday fellow readers! It’s a hot humid day here in Chattanooga, TN. Today I wanted to take a few minutes and talk about a few products that have made my Keto journey much easier.
First and foremost you do not need any specific product to be successful at Keto. All you need is good protein and keto approved veg and you will be good to go. Now with that being said I think it is important to make better choices along the way and many of these products have helped me stay in align with my goals, and also have made a difference in the food quality I prepare. Also, please note that these are my personal opinions only. I am in no way a promoter for these products or being paid to brag them up. They are plain and simply great products.
Product #1 – Redmonds real salt! I researched this stuff until I was blue in the face. I read hundreds of reviews and even emailed the company directly to answer the additional questions I had from the reviews. Let me tell you I was not disappointed once I received it and once I tried it. I know you are all thinking it is just salt, but man are you wrong! This stuff has a flavor profile from the added natural minerals that are in the salt. It brings out the natural flavor of meat like nothing I have ever tried. I add it to my coffee, my water for an electrolyte boost, and I carry a shaker of it with me everywhere I go. Trust me once you taste this stuff all other salt just doesn’t add up.
Product #2 – Redmonds Earthpaste! When I went Keto and started paying attention to ingredients it hit me that toothpaste is loaded with chemical. So at first I switched to Toms. Toms has a great product but still has xylitol in it. Xylitol is toxic to dogs and I didn’t want my fur babies risking getting a hold of it. So then I found Earthpaste. They actually offer one that has zero sweeteners in it, and only has four ingredients. The first time I used it I thought this is gross. I could taste the salt in it and it was odd because it doesn’t have the foaming agent in it that regular toothpaste does. After a couple days I went from tasting the salt to the essential mint oil instead. After a week let me tell you my teeth feel cleaner than they have in years and I have minimal build up if any at all. They also offer other flavors and options with sweeteners that are keto friendly such as stevia.
Product #3 – Free range fresh chicken eggs! I know there are a bunch of people out there saying it is just an egg. Having a fresh egg from a pastured chicken does not even begin to compare to any store bought egg I have ever had. Also, I have noticed with these eggs I have less reactions to my body from them. The yolks (my favorite part) are also so much richer than other eggs. I also like that I am supporting a local farmer and business with my purchase. My local farmer of choice is Feathers and Fruit.
Product #4 – Keto Chow Fasting drops! I do a lot of intermittent fasting, and here lately I have picked up doing a lot more longer duration fasts. I add these drops to my water and it helps keep my electrolytes in balance. There are many times that I my mind starts to tell me I am hungry, but I know I am not. These drops make me realize I am not truly hungry its a mind trick. The other great part is they are not pricy and they go a long way.
These are my four staple things that make my keto journey better. There are many other products that I try and like, but I don’t consistently use them enough to be able to give a good review of them. I have placed links to these products above in the text and you can also find them on my products page. Until next time…Keep Ketoing On!
Hello fellow readers…HAPPY FRIDAY! What a week it has been and I am looking forward to my weekend. So I wanted to take a few today and talk about salt. Salt seems to instill fear into people. I have never had that fear because that fear is a large majority of the time tied to high blood pressure, I’ve always been on the opposite side and had lower blood pressure so it never bothered me. With that being said I was still very conscious about consuming it and minimally using it on my food.
First off I am not a medical doctor and the information I am sharing with you is of my opinion only. If you want medical advice I advise you to reach out to your doctor. Also, please be aware that just because my body does not see an effect from salt consumption it does not mean you will have the same effect, we are all bio-different!
If you want a great resource to read on salt I highly recommend the book The Salt Fix by Dr. DiNicolantonio. This is a great book with information from a great guy! You need to understand what salt is and what it does for you and this book will help you understand that better.
Second off you really need to invest in a good high quality salt. It makes all the difference in how it is used in your body and also the taste quality is different. Yes all salts taste different. Just a note for knowledge…table salt has sugar in it! Avoid it at all costs! You need a good quality Himalayan pink salt or even a Celtic sea salt would be great. Don’t just grab anyone of them though. You need to see where the salt is being sourced from. Many salts today are polluted with micro-plastics from our oceans. This is one of the main reasons I choose Redmond’s Real Salt, it is mined from an ancient ocean that dried up in Utah and is pure. It also has an amazing taste profile to it and I thoroughly enjoy the flavor it gives me. They even offer travel shakers and while I have not purchased one yet, I do keep some in my purse at all times! Yes I take my own salt everywhere with me and yes it makes that big of a difference.
Lastly I wanted to talk about some personal results of mine. I had blood work done in 2017 prior to starting any form of keto. My sodium level at that time was 143. Keep in mind during that time I pretty much added no extra salts to my food, and if I did it was a minimal amount. Fast-forward to March 2019….43 weeks into Keto and my sodium level was 142! My sodium actually dropped a complete point. The funny thing is I salt everything I eat now liberally to taste, I add it to my water for an electrolyte boost, and I actually just eat it as a snack on a daily basis. So your thinking ok what about your blood pressure? So pre-keto my average blood pressure had been running around 124/87 my current blood pressure averages around 112/74. So personally for me the increase in salt has not affected my sodium levels or my blood pressure. As a side note my resting heart rate has also dropped 18 beats per minute as well…I would say my ticker is doing just fine.
Don’t shy aware from a necessary mineral that we need because you don’t understand it. Take the time to educate yourself about the mineral, and then educate yourself on a good quality product to put into your body. Salt is your friend not your enemy. Until next time Keep Ketoing On!
